WindScanner Kick-off meeting at DTU Wind Energy

On the Kick-off meeting the project coordinator Søren Knudsenm DTU Wind gave an introduction and background to the development of the project from its present state as an existing national research infrastructure in Denmark, to the submission and subsequent approval from ESFRI to be included on the European Roadmap Research Infrastructures in 2010. He stated the importance of all participants to keep in mind that this is a “preparatory project” aiming to ensure the timely preparation of the administrative, legal, financial and technical issues necessary for the establishment and operation of the new European WindScanner Facility. This means that the bulk of the work is not only a technological challenge. However the technical work is important as further details needs to be developed on the scientific and technical vision and content as it is important that we end up with an ambitious – but realistic - joint European Research Infrastructure, that is more than a lose network but really has clear infrastructure elements, providing excellent services to the European wind energy research community.
During the Kick-off meeting it was also emphasized that the aim of WindScanner.eu is to establish a new joint European distributed Research Infrastructure that can provide a coordinated upgrade of major European facilities with state-of-the-art WindScanners. Each partner will commit to ensure a continuous development and application of the technology (including financial commitments), both with benefits for the national research and industry, but also to carry out highly specialized experiments in locations all over Europe that will enable new groundbreaking research in the years to come.
